Lani's Mission

Lani’s — a reference to founder Ylana Padgett’s childhood nickname — is built on a simple belief:

Food brings people together, and it has the power to help us learn about and understand one another. Lani’s is food for the people, by the people.

Some of Ylana’s favorite memories have always been formed around the table and in the kitchen — sharing conversation and good food made with love. Growing up on a farm in rural Michigan, I learned early that good and nutritious food doesn’t come from nowhere — it comes from cared for land, different seasons, from people who care about how it’s grown and prepared. For my whole life I have always been drawn to the power of food and the joy it can bring – the conversation, the mess, the food made with love instead of a recipe followed to the letter and food that was practical, delicious, and good for you.

Lani’s started because I kept noticing the same thing, whether I was cooking at home or shopping for something to grab on the go: so much of our food is chasing a trend — high protein, zero sugar, whatever’s next — while quietly being full of ingredients you wouldn’t find in a home kitchen and ones I couldn’t feel good about. I wanted something different. Whole, minimal, real. Food that tastes like it came from an actual kitchen, because it did.

That’s what you’ll find here — recipes rooted in family memory and everyday life, developed and tested in my own kitchen with and for family and friends, alongside food products made the same way: by hand, with real ingredients, sourced from farms and producers who care about organic, sustainable, and regenerative practices, and local whenever we can be, because small farmers deserve support and a real food system depends on it.

Whether you’re here for a recipe, a snack to take on the trail, or just a good story about a meal, I hope Lani’s feels like a seat at the table — real, unhurried, and made for everyone.
